  • Seen as a time of independence for a lot of countries
  • India and Pakistan received their independence in 1947
  • Cuba went through its revolution during the year 1959
  • Africas battle for independence
  • Nelson Mandela jailed for 27 years, he was the leader of South Africa's Nationalist party
  • South Africa was controlled by white settlers that made up less then 20% of the South African population. Native South Africans were controlled by the minority 
  • European powers were seen as weaker powers due to WW2 outcome
  • Fall of many empires due to colonial expansion    
  • India with Gandhi helped led peaceful protests against British rule after experiencing racial segregation throughout its nation. Gandhi became a very important role model to many and an important role in India as he was later seen as a seminal thinker. India at the time was divided between Hindus and muslims, so when India received its independence muslims and the Pakistani nation was seen as a separate country. 
  • Over in Latin America poverty and government rule lead for a military coo taking over the wealthy and corrupt just to become a powerhouse in these nations today.

Ch20

The 20th century was seen as the collapse of human error, capitalism and humanity With the end of the modern era, there was a strive for global domination through out the world.  European / "western"assertion of superiority over all cities and move from a colonial empire. Through the development of capitalism guided by enlightenment values. Main difference between empire and colony was that an empirical conquest was a conquest of nearby communities and people conquered are respected and usually benefit from the conquering. Colonial the people that are taken over are seen as slaves and are stripped of their belongings and are told to worship the king or nation that has conquered them. China and Russia became first communist party because they never went through an industrialized period  According to Marx social classes needed to be formed from an industrial revolution so communism required industrialization  China, North Korea, Russia, Vietnam, Cuba and a bit of Laos and Cambodia could be seen as communist countries left  Communism & Feminism - women had more opportunities Cold war - was a battle of arms between Russia and U.S. but neither had fired any shots at each other due to both having nuclear weapons Battles happened in allied counties seen as a Cold War Divide between East and West (Iron Curtain) division of communist the countries and those who were not.
